The course is split into 4 units and builds on the knowledge gained from the NEBOSH General Certificate.

Course overview

The NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety gives learners the skills and knowledge to competently manage and control all aspects of health and safety, enabling them to reduce risk, raise standards and improve efficiency in their company. As globalization increases, governments and employers are recognising the need for a common and consistent standard for achieving and maintaining the health and safety of workers in all parts of the world. Based on international standards, the NEBOSH International Diploma provides a recognised level of practice that helps to improve safety standards and advance the profession on a global scale.

How long is  the NEBOSH international Diploma?

The NEBOSH International Diploma offered in association with Astutis grants the learner a maximum length of 3 years to complete the course. However,  with dedication and time given to the course, learners can complete it in as little as 500 hours.

How is it different to the NEBOSH National Diploma?

The NEBOSH International Diploma is modelled on the NEBOSH National Diploma. The key difference is the application of legal requirements. Rather than being guided by UK legislation, the NEBOSH International Diploma takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards, such as the International Labour Organisation (ILO) codes of practice. Local laws and cultural factors are also included when appropriate. It’s this global best practice approach which helps make sure people all around the world are working to the same high standards.

Who is the NEBOSH International Diploma for?

The NEBOSH International Diploma is for health and safety professionals working outside of the UK looking to develop their knowledge and skills to an advanced level.

How is the NEBOSH International Diploma assessed?

There are three x 3-hour written assements, 1 each for Units IA, IB and IC. Unit DNI is an 8000-word project. Exams are held twice a year in January and July in recognised exam centres.

What support do the NEBOSH International Diploma tutors provide?
All Astutis tutors are experienced health and safety professionals and leaders within their field. Additionally, as NEBOSH examiners they are ideally placed to guide and coach delegates to ensure success. How many exams must I take for the NEBOSH International Diploma?
There are 3 half-day exams required of the NEBOSH National Diploma ­ each covering a unit of the course. In addition to this, candidates must complete an 8,000-word work-based assignment. For more information on NEBOSH International Diploma examinations.
How does the NEBOSH International Diploma compare to a university degree?
The NEBOSH International Diploma qualification has been accredited as a level 6 qualification by Ofqual. This is equivalent to a university honours degree ­ and is a good base from which to progress to a Masters Degree in Health and Safety.
How long does it take to complete the NEBOSH International Diploma qualification?
The length of time taken to complete the NEBOSH International Diploma course varies according to the mode of study. However, the classroom-based course is run over 6 weeks ­ each unit taking 2 weeks of tuition. Candidates have a period of 5 years from enrolment to completing their NEBOSH International Diploma exams.
What is my route to Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) status through the NEBOSH International Diploma?
The NEBOSH International Diploma qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Graduate Membership (GradIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). It is the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner as a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH). The next step is completing a Skills Development Portfolio. Once you have passed all the Units you will also need to maintain your continuing professional development (CPD). You will be asked to attend a Peer Review Interview.
Are there any entry requirements to taking the NEBOSH International National Diploma?
Although it is not required, it is strongly recommended that you take the International Certificate course before the International Diploma to improve your chances of passing.
Do I have to start with Unit IA of the NEBOSH International Diploma?
No. As the NEBOSH National Diploma course is modular, delegates are able to study individual units as they please. However, Astutis would recommend starting with Unit A as delegates will find they are able to build on knowledge gained with each Unit.
