The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (IGC) is one of the leading health and safety qualifications around the world.  It helps develop your understanding of general workplace issues and how they can be applied in different sectors around the world.

Course information

The new NEBOSH International Certificate focuses on the role of real-life health and safety professionals. It looks at the real, everyday risks that people encounter and how to manage them to help protect people and profits.

You’ll develop the essential risk management skills to create a safe and healthy workplace. And, you’ll have the foundation knowledge to make recommendations to your employer to help them improve health and safety management.

Course entry requirements

You don’t need any previous health and safety knowledge or experience to take the course. But you will need to have a good level of English to be able to understand complex concepts and discuss them in your exam.

What’s covered in the new NEBOSH International Certificate?

The course takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards, such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) codes of practice.

It’s divided into 2 units:

• IG1 – Management of health and safety
• IG2 – Risk assessment

How is the new NEBOSH International Certificate assessed?

Elements 1-4 of IG1 is assessed through a 2-hour question paper to test what you know. They’re held in approved exam centres around the world.

IG2 is a practical assessment to test what you can do. It’s carried out in a workplace and submitted via post or email.

The NEBOSH International Certificate meets the academic requirements for:

• Technical membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Tech IOSH)
• Associate Membership of the International Institute of Risk Management (AIIRSM)
• Associate Membership of the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and
  Health (SAIOSH)
• Registered Safety Technician/Safety Professional status by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals  (CRST/CRSP)
